Assange's brother says hearing in February' the end of the line in the UK courts'
Gabriel Shipton, the brother of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, said his hearing at the High Courts in London on February 20-21 "signals a crucial stage in Julian's battle for justice and is the end of the line in the UK courts." Shipton said: "He has gone through years of uncertainty, his mental and physical health getting worse and worse. He should be able to come home to Australia with his children and get the support he needs. I urge the Prime Minister to pull out all the stops in his efforts to end Julian's suffering. Bring Julian home."
New report: US gov't held secret talks with Wuhan-based scientist before pandemic outbreak
A Wuhan-based scientist who ran experiments at the laboratory suspected of bringing COVID-19 held a secret meeting with the US scientists shortly before the pandemic started in 2020. The meeting, which was held at the US National Institutes of Health (NIH), boosts fears of Western collusion in a Chinese cover-up.
Expert: Albo's objective to stabilise relations with Beijing a failure
Euan Graham, a senior analyst at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI), called on the Albanese government to drop its goal of "stabilising" relations with Beijing as he described the objective as a "failure." He said: "Whenever China succeeds in elevating subjectively defined atmospherics as a basis for engagement, it undermines national-interest considerations if the other side accepts that differences should be minimised in order to establish goodwill or to maintain access."

A new study showed that individuals who got two doses of a COVID-19 jab may be more likely to get long COVID symptoms compared with those who received one or no dose. In a report published in PLoS One, authors found five statistically significant predictors of developing long COVID: pre-existing medical conditions, having a higher number of symptoms during the acute phase of COVID-19, two doses of COVID-19 vaccination, the severity of illness, and admission to a hospital.
Western Australians could soon choose' no gender' for newborns
In a bid to scale up a "gender-free" society, Western Australians could soon have the choice to not assign their newborn a gender on their child's birth certificate. This comes after John Quigley, the state's Attorney-General, said he is considering if Western Australia should introduce a model similar to Tasmania.

Holden said: "Start with the raw facts. Australia has done less to get inflation under control and made much less progress than the US [and other countries]. Taking all this together, a more plausible scenario for Australia in 2024 is that interest rates do not fall — and if anything, may rise a little more to get inflation under control."
